The basics - an Ajax A2 will pump to a maximum head of 250 feet. Its suction and discharge outlets are 1.25". That means that your delivery pipe will need to be a minimum of 1.25" - however, a larger pipe is recommended to help overcome friction when pumping. This pump will deliver 300 gallons per hour and it will need a minimum of 0.75 hp (electric) to deliver that at 50 strokes per minute.

After the standard strip down, sandblast, undercoat, rebuild and subsequent respray, this pump is ready to go. The new parts fitted during the rebuild are as follows:

• new piston rod and three new nuts
• pinion and shaft
• piston plates x 2
• centre plate
• wet-end maintenance kit - buckets x 2, valve rubbers x 4, valve springs x 4, gasket set and gland packing
• deflector
• new bolts all round
• new 12", double-A aluminium pulley

This pump is ready to go back to work.
